Urban Prepping: Building a Survival Stockpile in a Small Apartment

Most prepping advice assumes a house with a basement and a garage. Apartment dwellers have to be more deliberate, but the underlying goals (water, food, light, first aid, communication) don't change. What changes is where you put them.
Vertical storage does the heavy lifting in a small space. Under-bed containers, the back of a closet, and the top of a wardrobe can hold a surprising amount of water and shelf-stable food without eating into livable square footage. Flat, stackable containers beat bulky ones every time.
Think dual-purpose. A stepladder that doubles as extra shelving, an ottoman with hollow storage, a coffee table with a lift-top: furniture that earns its footprint twice is worth more in an apartment than a single-purpose storage bin.
Finally, plan for evacuation as seriously as you plan for sheltering in place. In a dense urban environment, a fire, a gas leak, or a structural issue two floors down can force you out with little notice. Keep a grab-and-go bag by the door, not buried in the hall closet.
